Notes:
Please see the notes throughout the instructions before beginning this edging.
I usually use this edging for flannelette or polar fleece blankets, but it could be used on crocheted projects as well!
If you choose to purchase premade baby blankets for this project, simply cut the hem off with pinking shears to ensure the fabric doesn’t fray.
In order to put holes in the fabric for the initial single crochet, I used a taylor’s awl and pushed the crochet hook through the fabric, but you can also get skip-stitch blades for a rotary cutter that will cut holes in the fabric. I’m not sure how this would go for woven fabrics because they may fray, but it would be fine for stretch fabrics such as polar fleece.
You could however, consider fray-stopper for woven fabrics if you choose to go for this option.

Note: Going around corners may require 2 SC in each foundation SC to prevent the corners curling up.
Round 3: CH 1, ** SC 10, (Drop colour 1 and crochet over / carry) SC 8 into the first hole of the heart, SC 1 into the middle HDC, SC 8 into the second hole of the heart, (Pick up colour 1). SC 10, (Drop colour 2 and crochet over / carry) SC 8 into the first hole of the heart, SC 1 into the middle HDC, SC 8 into the second hole of the heart, (Pick up colour 2) ** Repeat from ** to ** around the entire edge of the blanket, using a SS to join to the first CH. Fasten off and sew in ends.
Note 1: Again, the corners may require 2 SC in each foundation SC to prevent the corners curling up.
Note 2: The colour yarn being used to SC around each heart must correspond to the initial heart colour.
Note 3: Ensure that after crocheting over / carrying the dropped yarn, that it is pulled firmly to make sure there are no loops of the dropped colour hanging out the back of the heart.
